From Bean to Sprout

a first time mom's forray into parenthood

Cottage Fun August 19, 2012

I was going to entitle this post “Cottaging Fun!” but my friend Doopah ruined the meaning of cottaging forever for me.

Last weekend we decided to go to the cottage and just unwind from the summer of weddings. Steph went up with her sons as well.  Steph and I spent most of the weekend making my mom’s traditional 2 day spaghetti sauce and then using the sauce to make various spaghetti casseroles. Chris discovered a passion for fishing with Martin. Logan, Niko and Henry had a blast together. It was quite the animal house with 3 boys under the age of 4. It was constantly go-go-go. I was telling my mom as we were leaving on Sunday “I bet you’ll sleep like the dead tonight!”

So because it’s getting late, I’m just going to photo dump and maybe do a few captions…

This looks like Henry on his own, but Chris is underwater with Henry on his shoulders.

This makes me think of scandalous 50s ads. Like “Only Henry knows he’s not wearing proper diapers”

Nothing like some mud to help digest your meal

This is Niko defiantly eating mud after his mom told him not to put that in his mouth…

Steph painted this lion face on Logan and he stayed in character for a good 30-35 minutes.

Run Henry Run! There’s a lion behind you!!!

Going to the Chapel…

My sister Melissa got married on August 4th. I didn’t get to take many pictures since I was in the wedding party so Chris was on daddy and photographer duty. He also had the responsibility of dressing Henry up for the occasion and I have to say, I LOVED the outfit!

Doesn’t he look like a crazy professor?

This is Henry trying to convince people his scientific theories aren’t crazy… “I’m telling you guys the truth! Why is no one listening to me?!?”

We didn’t get many pictures of the actual wedding (I blame Chris) but there was one group shot he got:

All I zoom in on in this picture is my “awesome” tan lines! I tried so hard all summer not to get any and I got these the weekend before.

We did get a few close family shots.

Henry’s not a fan of being smushed by his parents. It’s too bad you can’t see my dress at all. I look like I’m completely naked!!

Smiles from my guys

Yep, Chris wore his kilt. It was probably the hottest day of the year so I’m not sure if the heavy wool was good or not but he said whenever there was a breeze, he was glad for it.

The wedding itself was great. Like I mentioned above, it was freaking hot! I felt a few times like I was going to pass out in my tight dress. I think bridesmaid dresses are supposed to make you uncomfortable by default eh? There was lots of great food and dancing and an amazing candy buffet that Melissa’s friend set up. It had all these old fashioned jars full of various candies. Henry got to eat a Reese’s peanut butter cup for the first time. It was a delicious mess. Both Chris and Henry left after the speeches but I stuck it out until midnight. Thank god Chris let me sleep in the next morning!

Yep, Still Alive

Sorry for the blog silence in the past couple of weeks. It’s been one crazy day after another. We’ve kind of been catching our breath after all the wedding related activities of the summer and enjoying being a bit disconnected from the world.

Also, for the past two weeks I’ve been trying to put together a stupid photobook from a Groupon I purchased back in February and which is expiring on August 22nd. I won’t name any specific names, but the photobook company has to have the most unfriendly user software I’ve ever seen. It’s been an uphill battle trying to put my “2011” photobook together. Next year, I’m going with Shutterfly.

Anyways, I’ll try and make a few posts instead of jamming everything we’ve done in one. So let’s start with fun at the splashpad!

We discovered a splashpad near our house that Henry loves. Unfortunately, it’s not the actual splashpad that’s awesome for him, it’s the little hill that he can run up and down endlessly.

Meh, I guess this is cool…

unenthusiastic “hurray” for water coming out of this tube

Henry was somewhat curious about these until he decided to run through it, then panicked and stopped while jets shots him in the face. This could be why he wasn’t impressed with the pad itself.

Getting consoled by mommy after the terrible jet incident

Running up and down hills is much safer…

There’s the happy face we were looking for!
